The ancient herbal medicine of India is called ayurveda, the science of life. It views each person as a unique individual who body, emotions and mind are influenced b three major principles:

  • vata, wind or movement

  • pitta fire, or transformation, and

  • kapha, stuff, matter, mucus, the solid material of which the body is made.


Ayurveda acknowledges the role of the spirit, mind, and emotions as well as the physical body in health.While ayurveda has very powerful remedial treatments, people can also learn how to support their fullest health and prevent illness using this ancient science. What should they eat? What kind of exercise is best? Are their simple daily routines they can do which will enhance full health and vigor?
Healing illness with ayurveda could involve

  • Pancha Karma or five purifications,

  • diet,

  • breathing exercise,

  • oil massage,

  • yoga

  • meditation, and

  • chanting.


Some healing modalities, such as the skillful use of herbal oil massage, have been well developed over centuries. Even today, they are famous for correcting arthritis, rheumatism, and even paralysis as well as helping with illnesses like polio, multiple sclerosis and the like.
