Wynn cup 2nd round Ingrow away

The day got off to a slow start as the team met at the Granby pub. Many of the more experienced players looked as though they hadn't left from the previous night.

After transport difficulties we arrived at the Ingrow ground and were greeted with a green wicket and a moist outfield.

Skipper Alan put us in the right frame of mind by losing the toss for the 8th time in succession and forcing us in to bat.

Trigger struck early, breaking the opening pairs rhythm by giving a dubious run out.

The batting never really improved with only Matthew Cox scoring freely early on before enticing Trigger into making another frustrating decision giving him out LBW.

The score ticked along slowly and the wickets kept falling, the occasional cheer and laughter was heard from the spectators but this was due to the revealing of dark secrets and the thought of someone actually paying money for a West ham hat.

A late flourish from the junior trio was brought to an abrupt halt as Alan Hayes again brought the game into disrepute, dragging the ball onto his stumps and then throwing his bat to the floor in disgust. Alan will pay the price in the future if he keeps mistreating his wood.

This left Airedale with a total of 153. They had left themselves a hard task and pressure was on the bowlers.

After tea early wickets from Matthew and Malcolm put the pressure on the batters. The bowlers were backed up in the field with X-treme fielding throughout.

A victory looked possible until the weather changed and  it began to rain. Alan tried in vain to re-start play by holding an emergency conference but the rain had set in. Paul Feather provided a negative outlook on the situation in the absence of John Pollard and there was a disappointing end to a entertaining days cricket. A date was set for Sunday the 9th at 11am to finish the thrilling encounter.
