Vladikavkaz...the sacered heart of the North Ossetian Republic. It was founded in the 6th of May 1784 as a Russian military
fortress on the right bank of the river Terek. In 1785, according to the edict of Catherine the Great, the first Orthodox
Church was built in Vladikavkaz. But in three years the fortress was ruined during military operations in the North Caucasus.
After it had been restored in 1795, it was served as the means os communication with Georgia.
Inside the fortress there were several official buildings& "a house for the gentlemen passing through", where Pushkin& Lermontov
stopped at.
In the 31.march 1860 Vladikavkaz acquired the status of a town. Since 1875 it has been known as a large-scale economic, cultural&
scientific centre in the North Caucasus.

The emblem of the North-Ossetia Alania represents the image of ounce against the background of mountain chains. The component
of the emblem, silhouette of the mountain chains, symbolizes the appearance of the country where the Ossete live. Mountains
were the symbol of Ossetia long since& later of Vladikavkaz as well. The ounce is the symbol of bravery& courage.

The flag of the North-Ossetia Alania consists if three colours- from the top-white, red, yellow. In the heraldry white colour
is the symbol of moral purity, the red one- military valour, the yellow one- wealth& abundance. The use of these colours goes
back to the Scythian history to the three-functional society: priest, warrior& farmers. The colourful symbolics are presented
in "The White Sanctuary", "The Red Sanctuary", "The Golden Sanctuary".
