The Objectives and Aims of Jihaad

The Levels of Jihaad
© 1997 Invitation to Islam
Allaah, the Most High and the Most Majestic, has stated
the objectives behind jihaad in the cause of Allaah, the Most High. He, the Most Perfect, says:
Fight them until there is no more fitnah (shirk), and the religion will be for Allaah Alone. But if they cease (worshipping others besides
Allaah) then certainly Allaah
is All-Seer of what they do. [Soorah al-Anfaal: 39]
Fight them until there is no more fitnah, and all worship is for Allaah
Alone. But if they cease let there be no transgression except against the
wrong-doers. [Soorah al-Baqarah:
193]
So in light of this, the objectives of jihaad include:
1. Raising the Word of Allaah, the Most High
The Prophet, sallallahu
`alayhi wa
sallam, said: Whoever fights in order to make the
word of Allaah the highest, then he is in the Cause
of Allaah. [Related by al-Bukhaaree
with al-Fath (6/28)]
2. Helping the Oppressed
Allaah, the Most High, says:
And what is wrong with you that you do not
fight in the Cause of Allaah, and for those weak, ill treated and oppressed among men,
women, and children, whose cry is: Our Lord! Rescue us from this town whose
people are oppressors. [Soorah an-Nisaa:
75]
3. Repelling Aggression and
Protecting Islam
Allaah, the Most High, says:
Whoever transgresses against you,
retaliate likewise against him, and fear Allaah, and
know that Allaah is with those who fear him. [Soorah al-Baqarah: 194]
For had it not been that Allaah tests one set of people by means of another,
monasteries, churches, synagogues, and masaajid,
wherein the name of Allaah is mentioned often, would
surely have been pulled down. Verily, Allaah will
help those who help His (Cause). Truly, Allaah is
All-Strong, Almighty. [Soorah al-Hajj, 40]
