CHAPTER 2
A BATTLE AND A FRIEND

Clyde walked right into a nest of Rattata.

So he got a picture of it, and Cam, the voice of the Pokécameras, said, "Rattata, the Rat Pokémon. It bites anything when it attacks."

Clyde thought for a minute, I am in their territory, so they might attack, I have to be very careful. He unclipped the Pokéball from his belt and tossed it.

"Go Cyndaquil. Use your Bite attack," commanded Clyde.

But the Cyndaquil didn't seem to be listening to him, then Cam gave Clyde instructions on what kind of commands a certain Pokémon has.

So Clyde tried once again, "Cyndaquil, use your Tackle attack."

Cyndaquil then understood, and gave one of the Rattata a Tackle, but a group of them came out. Then all of a sudden, Cyndaquil got angry and shot flames out of its back.

"What is that?" asked Clyde in a shocking tone of voice.

Cam responded with, "When Cyndaquil gets angry, it shoots fire out of its back to give it strength."

The Rattata started towards the Cyndaquil, and Clyde gave the orders of a Leer and an Ember. The Rattata ran off with the tip of their tails on fire. Clyde shouted with joy as he won his very first battle.

Coming down the path from Viridian, was another trainer, Sara. She was on her own little journey of becoming the champion of Pokémon. The two didn't see each other and as a result they bumped into each other.

"Oh, sorry miss," Clyde said with the deepest apologies.

"No, that's all right. I'm not hurt. Hey, you have a Pokéball. Are you a trainer?" she asked.

He replied, "Yeah, Professor Oak gave me this Pokéball and it came with a Cyndaquil. I just got done beating a bunch of Rattata coming down this path and then I bumped into you."

The two talked as Clyde told her he was on his way back to Viridian, and she told him, she was trying to follow up on the professor's research. Clyde explained to her that Oak had stopped his research do to an emergency and told her what it was.

"Oh, no! That's terrible. I was going there to get some information from him, but I guess I have no choice but to turn back," exclaimed Sara.

In response, Clyde came up with an idea. If Sara came with me, to help search for Ash, she might get the information she wants in return. So it was settled, the two set out to Viridian City.

When they got there, the police were in a rage for what had happened.

"People of Viridian say that "Team Rocket" Rocket's robbed the Pokémon Center here. "Team Rocket" Rocket's was an organization of thieves, set out to kidnap Pokémon around the world. But a boy named Ash Ketchum broke up the chain of "Team Rocket" Rocket's groups all around the world."

A news reporter had been giving his update on what seemed to be a robbery planned by Team Rocket.

"Wait, did that guy just say Ash Ketchum? I need to get information from him about what he knows about Ash," said Clyde overhearing the live broadcast.

Sara was curious too.

As they neared the reporter, someone screamed, "Ah, Team Rocket!"

There was Team Rocket, in a hot-air balloon. Then they gave what sounded like a speech in the ears of Clyde:

"Prepare for trouble,
Make it double,
To protect the world from devastation,
To unite all peoples within our nation,
To denounce the evils of truth and love,
To extend our reach to the stars above,
Jessie,
James,
Team Rocket blast off at the speed of light,
Surrender now or prepare to fight, fight, fight,
Wobbuffet"

After the long and monotonous motto, Clyde replied, "Hey, if you're Team Rocket, you better give back what you took; and besides, that was a boring motto."

"James, that twerp just made fun of our motto," Jessie said with grinning teeth.

"Come on Jessie, do we have to do this? We're getting to old for this," James said with a bored voice.

"No, James, even if we went out of business, we can still steal things. We can sell these Pokémon we took and open a store with our money," explained Jessie as she showed him the Pokéball.

There must have been about fifty Pokéball in the bag, some from the Pokémon Center and some from the other trainers in Viridian City. Clyde and Sara were the only ones there with Pokémon. The townspeople wanted their help, so they decided to. Clyde sent out his Pokémon, Cyndaquil, and Sara sent out hers, Weedle. Clyde snapped a picture of Weedle and he got the information. Then Team Rocket sent their Pokémon out which were, Weezing and Arbok.

Team Rocket gave the commands, "Arbok, Poison Sting; Weezing, Smog attack."

The air was filled with smog with poisonous stingers came flying at Cyndaquil and Weedle. Weedle got hit with a Poison Sting, but was unaffected because it being a poison bug type. On the other hand, Cyndaquil was on the ground, poisoned. Sara gave an Antidote to Clyde, to give to Cyndaquil. After the downed Pokémon was cured, he got up and started to fight back, though the smog blinded him. The smog settled after a while, and that is when the fight started to lean towards the hero and his friend.

"all right Weedle shoot that balloon down with your Poison Sting," Sara yelled out.

The attack connected as Cyndaquil burned Arbok and Weezing with its Flamethrower. Team Rocket then was sent flying through the sky as Cyndaquil followed up with a Fire Spin.

"Team Rocket blasts off, again!"

The two saved the day. They were congratulated by the people and were given tokens of appreciation. Afterwards, Clyde led the way to his house, where they stayed to eat dinner.

"Thanks for your help, Sara. If it wasn't for Weedle, Team Rocket could have gotten away with all the Pokémon they took."

Sara thanked him and told him, "Well, your Cyndaquil is pretty strong too. Maybe someday, you could become a Pokémon Master."

"Thanks, but you have a better chance than me. Besides I am on this journey for one reason, and that is to find Ash."

Clyde and Sara finished their dinner. Clyde said goodbye to his mom, and they headed out towards the Viridian Forest after they took a quick trip to the Pokémon Center to check to see if everything was all right. The night was dark, and clear. What could the Viridian Forest have in store for the heroes?
