Final Fantasy Bestiary: Arachnids

ARACHNIDS

Arachnids have eight legs, you know. EIGHT legs. And their bodies are divided into the ABDOMEN and CEPHALOTHORAX! Love that cephalothorax!

Black Widow --- Scorpion --- Sea Scorpion Tarantuala

BLACK WIDOW

Black widow spiders are found across the world and average half an inch in length. Their name is a reference to the fact that females sometimes eat males in captivity - although this rarely happens in their natural habitat. Female black widow spiders use a nonfatal venom, the symptoms of which are nausea, sweating and a temperature.

SCORPION

Arachnids with pincers and venomous stings on their tails. Scorpions feed mainly on insects, and usually only harm humans when provoked. Their poison is rarely fatal to humans, the main effects being drowsiness and numbness. The largest type of scorpion can grow to around 15 centimetres.

SEA SCORPION

Around 350 million years ago there was a species of aquatic scorpion, the eurypterid. However, FF's sea scorpion doesn't look much like the eurypterid, being basically a modern scorpion painted blue, and so may not have been inspired by it.

TARANTULA

Large spiders that can grow to 5 inches in length (with a legspan of 10 inches), and, despite FF's renditions, are harmless, their venom being non-toxic to humans. They feed mainly on insects, which they catch after persuit (as opposed to spinning webs)
