Match Report (Wales on Sunday) :

Goals on either side of half time enabled Porthmadog to achieve the Welsh Premier's shock-of-the-day, toppling leaders Bangor City, who paid a high price for a sub-standard performance.

The visitors from The Traeth, managed by former City favourite, Viv Williams, and including a smattering of ex-Farrar Road players, showed more purpose and more passion to merit their win.

Peter Davenport's hosts, who had gone into action on the back of good-looking 6-0 and 4-2 triumphs, were disjointed and hardly caused a serious threat throughout.

More composed Porthmadog were well organised in defence, inventive in midfield and showed enterprise up-front, so that more goals might well have been scored.

In an intriguing battle of the brothers, Porthmadog's Ryan Davies got his name on the goals' sheet just before half time, whereas sibling Les Davies for City hardly got in a decent shot at the other end.

Porthmadog's clincher goal, two minutes after the break, was powered in by a Mark Williams header as the home team ball-watched.

Davies's opener, timed at 44 minutes, was finished off from eight yards' range at an angle on the right, after Gareth Parry's free-kick from around the half-way line had been deflected off Bangor's wall of defenders.

The second session was in its infancy, when Mike Foster swept over a cross from Porthmadog's left flank for Williams to take advantage of space in the home back division, and his effort eluded keeper Paul Whitfield.

Bangor had mounted the game's first raid of consequence, when Owain Jones attempted a shot from the edge of the box, following a free kick by Simon Davies, only for Porthmadog's Parry to divert the threat for a corner.

When Gareth Caughter drilled a low centre from Porthmadog's left wing soon after, Bangor's cause was helped by a timely intervention by Eifion Jones, with keeper Whitfield snapping up the loose ball.

Tony Williams then tried an audacious 30-yarder for Porthmadog, hoping to catch Whitfield unawares, but Peter Hoy lunged in with a timely deflection, which directed the ball to safety.

The visitors could have gone three up, when Carl Owen's diving header from six yards missed the target.

Mark Williams also failed to deliver when presented with a free header at asimilar distance and with Bangor hardly offering any improvement in a second-half, Mottram should have done better from 10 yards but dragged his shot wide to waste some slick build-up play by Owain Jones and Paul Roberts.
