 2004 Stats

Marc Broadbelt
A true first team stalwart, Marc has been an integral part of the team for many years. A strong opening batsmen and a surprisingly agile fielder, we can rely on Marc in all situations.

In 2004 marc will continue to work hard towards the "reddest face of the year" award.

Brian "Wheels" Wheelahan
Our overseas player for 2004, Wheels has been described as a "leg spinner with everything" and "a very correct batsmen" (by his mum). Brian has added a great commitment and desire to win to the squad.

Wheels has not dissapointed with the bat and ball, he has also succeeded in drinking numerous pints and eating many pies.  He gets more like shane warne every day.

James "Jamie" Swales

Still considered part of the squad, even though he has let his pants rule his head, and moved to Australia. He was becoming our most successful opening bowlers, and towards the end of last season became the number 1 all rounder in the swales family.

A ladies committee favourite, in his final season James developed a fetish for wearing their blouses. This can only develop further in Aus

Math "Clayton" Blackmore
After 6 years away from the game, Math came back in to the 2nd team in 2003. It was not long before his tight bowling, and no nonsence batting had secured him a place in the 1sts.  He has made key contributions to our 2004 challenge.

Due to living out strange fantasies in his youth, Clayts now has the weakest ankles in world cricket.

Phil Leckenby

Another true stalwart in the Barwick team, Phil has played for Barwick ever since K.D. forced him onto the field in 1971. After captaining the 1st team for many years, Phil has played an integral part for the new captain this year. On more than one occasion, Phil’s batting has secured 6 points for us.

Phil is another one of the squad with "selective injury syndrome". Historically Phil has always been injured when playing the top teams. Unfortunately, this season, Phil seems to be injured when his girlfriend tells him he is.

Nick "Grumpy" Swales
The inspriational 1st team captain, Nick has been playing cricket since the day he was born.  Nicks talents develop year on year and he has now cemented his place as the 2nd best all-rounder in the swales family.  Nick regularly gets the innings off to positive start, and has begun to chip in with key wickets.

Nicks cricketing ambitions include entertaining "Amy Mills" (the Wetherby League reporter - "shes after him" you know) after a man of the match innings in the FF cup final.  I dont know which is more unlikely?

Richard Fleming

The 4th Aussie in the squad, we signed Rich this year from Burley in Wharfdale where he opened the bowling for many years. Due to injury Rich is now focussing on his batting, and has already chipped in with an awsome 136* against Spofforth.

A man known not to turn down a social occasion, Richard has expressed his desire to hold an end of season pool party, should we win the league. Something to play for lads.

Matthew "Goughy" Whyte
The youngest player in the 1st team squad, Goughy is probably the most promising fast bowler in the wetherby league.
A self proclaimed "b-boy", matty's signature move is the 6-step.

Pat "spider" Causon

Pat first came to barwick in the early ‘90s, and secured his place in the history of the Wetherby League with some lightening pace and a 10 wicket haul. Since his return to the UK 3 years ago, it is Pats batting that become something to fear. A more than useful middle order batsmen, we can rely on Pat to accelerate an innings on demand.

Pat has also become experienced with age, often claiming to be injured so that he cannot bowl against the top order. He won the league average with 25 wickets in 2003, go figure?

Martin "Dolphin Trainer" Rostron

A graduate of the youth system at Barwick, "rozzer" is proving a useful member of the squad.  He chips in with vital knocks at key time, and is arguably the fastest bowler at the club.  His likes include "one four chicken" and "the history of German women 2004"

Ian "Spooner" Stead

After doing the rounds, and also playing for a few different clubs, Spooner has found his roots in Barwick. After a successful season in the reserves, Ian’s dogged batting and exceptional fielding has secured him a place in the 1sts, where he continues to build healthy partnerships when needed.

It has become apparent that Spooners aim is to let people know why he is called Spooner. You will therefore find him entertaining a variety of the female form, on a regular basis.

"DJ" Dan Leadbeater

Another youth team graduate, Leadys natural cricketing talent is in the genes. A strong opening batsmen and outstanding fielder.  Certainly one to aid the 2nd teams promotion push in 2004.  A keen birdwatcher and has commented that his favourite species are the rapidly emerging "Sarah Cooper Breast".

Steve Bryant

Another of the old-timers, Steve has been at Barwick for nearly 20 years (excluding a year at Leeds Police). For the majority of the 20 years, Steve has secured his place as the 1st team opening bowler, and this year is no exception. His economical style has led to him to the bowling trophy on many occasions, and also selection for various representative teams.

Fortunately Steve is a policeman. It is the committees belief that if he had any other occupation he would not have time to play Cricket, Golf or even 5-a-side as he would have to work a full day.

Tony "Swish" Richardson

Tony has been around for years but it is this year that his form has brought him to the forefront of the 1st team. His drive to rid himself of the "swish" tag has led to him getting a lot of runs in 2004, on current form it cant be long before he is a 1st team regular.

It is not only the blond streak that makes Tony stand out, I am in no doubt that you will see his name many more times on the "quotes" board before the end of the campaign.
