No.11 Rua do Arrochelas

The house was probably built (there are no records) in the early 1800s from local rock or perhaps dressed stone from the earthquake ruins. It has being sympathetically modernised to give the tradional "feel" of a Silves townhouse with the addition of a modern kitchen and bathroom, a new electrical system, woodburning stove and general insulation / damp-proofing. The sale price was just under GB£ 100,000. There is mains water, sewage and electricity. The house is on a steep hill with parking at 25m. The lane at the front is mainly pedestrianised. The Cathedral and Castle are 5 minutes away on foot. The house lies within the old walls and has good views from the upstairs terrace. There is a peaceful and totally private courtyard garden.

House prices in the "old city" are rising steadily as more folk discover the "old world charm" of Silves City. The letting market for townhouses has also grown well over the past five years with the pedestrianisation of parts of Silves.
