This is one way by sea

Many visitors travel in 24 hours from the UK to Northern Spain and drive down. P+O sail to Bilbao, and Brittany Ferries sail to Santander. You can "do" the Algarve in about 18 hours elapsed driving time.

If you were very keen you could drive from Northern France to the Algarve in two very long days. Three days gives a chance to see something besides motorways (it is dual carriageway from Silves to Calais!).
