Basrah University History

University of Basrah was established on 1st of April 1964. Started with five colleges (Science, Engineering, Economy, Law and Literature) on the first academic year 1964-1965, accepted 816 students.

During it 39 years of development and success, the university became one of the major research centers in Iraq.

For the academic year 2002-2003, the university has 15 colleges (83 departments), 11 consultation centers, 16 scientific centers. The university publishes 16 scientific and research magazines on a regular bases.

The university's central library has 169586 books and 59000 periodicals.

Number of teaching staff (Masters and PhD) for the academic year is 1253.

The university awards B.Sc., Masters, and PhD degree in different sciences and technologies.
