Our football attendance was limited again this year, as Mumsy very kindly treated us to a trip to Walt Disney World. Rather than traipse down to Tampa, where we had already been during the Turnpike Tour, we opted to stay in Orlando and go to our first college bowl game, the 2006 Capital One Bowl. The Capital One Bowl is held in the Florida Citrus Bowl stadium, which until 2003 also gave the game its name.

This year’s teams were Wisconsin Badgers and Auburn Tigers. The Tigers were tied for the best record in the SEC West, but LSU went to the SEC Championship game where they lost to Atlanta. Wisconsin were placed third in the Big Ten.

The team mascots must have been nervous about the game, because they were both very thin!

Lou really should have checked the team colours before she packed her case. She had decided to wear her red 1998 Monarchs shirt. Everyone assumed she was a Wisconsin fan as they play in red and white, which was annoying, especially when there were more Auburn fans at the game. Lou got so fed up, she ended up wearing the Capital One Bowl T-shirt that Ian had bought, even if it was too big and looked daft!

The game had a pre-game party across from the stadium, billed as the Fan Fest. It was very much like the Power Parties of NFL Europe, although an entrance fee was charged. Inside the enclosure (which Lou didn’t think to get a picture of) was the usual stuff – beer and cocktail tents, passing games, lots of room to chuck a football around, local advertisers and organisations.

The sexiest thing at the Fan Fest was a chance to become sportscasters. We joined the queue and decided to read the Auburn script. When we took our places on the set, Lou disappeared behind the desk. The chair had collapsed and Lou ended up in a heap on the floor. Once the chair had been replaced, it was time for our big moment. We had to talk to camera and commentate over clips of Auburn highlights that were shown on the monitor in front of us. At the end of it, we were given a DVD of our efforts. We shall be circulating it to the networks and expect ESPN to call any day now!

"I'm Ian Mathias..."
"And I'm Louise Robinson..."
"Thanks for watching this Capital One Bowl Update"

After a quick trip back to the car to pick up Ian’s camera, we headed into the stadium.
