The Pennine Bridleway

The Pennine Bridleway is a new National Trail in the north of England, being planned and designed specifically for horse riders, off-road cyclists and walkers to enjoy. It will eventually run from the High Peak Trail in Derbyshire to Byrness, Northumberland, a distance of 560km (350 miles) and is due to be opened in 2004. Visit the website for more information

Working For Riding Rights

THE Dyfnant and Vyrnwy Riders Association (DVRA) are asking for help to secure 'Rides to Freedom' in Dyfnant and Vyrnwy Forests.

The Forestry Commission who control these forests, which lie in the triangle between Bala, Welshpool and Machynlleth, are prepared to open up a huge horse playground providing they are 'convinced there is sufficient interest'.

The DVRA say: 'We would have one of the most beautiful and best riding areas in Britain'. If successful, there could be up to 100 miles of well marked, interlinked and well maintained riding and horse driving routes. The DVRA state: ' This can only happen providing we prove to the Commission that there is sufficient interest.
