The Billingham Eagles put the controvesy regarding their play off games behind them to hit the long road to Basingstoke , it was felt that the draw had gone the way of the Eagles with Whitley picking up the ED1 south champions Haringey Greyhounds.
1st Period
The game opened with a 15 minute blitz that saw the Eagles 3-0. 6:13 saw Tom Brown score assisted by Paul Windridge and Phillip Pritchard. Tom got his second just over 2 minutes later when he was assisted by Andy Fletcher and Paul Windridge. Eagles pushed the score to 3 at 15:26 when Brian Perry hit home unassisted a power play goal .The first closed Basingstoke 0 : Billingham 3.
2nd Period
After only 49 seconds into the second saw the Buffalo open their account with a goal from Kent Graham. Basingstoke cut the Eagles lead when Adam Cathcart scored to pull the Buffalo to within 1 goal of the Eagles. Billingham restored their cushion when Andy Fletcher scored assisted by Ritchie Thornton and Paul Windridge (power play). Under a minute later the Buffalo had again clipped the wings of the Eagles with another Kent Graham goal. The Eagles were not going to take this game lying down and another goal , a hat trick goal from Tom Brown assisted by Paul Winndridge and Brian Perry to make it Basingstoke 3 : Billingham 5.
3rd Period
The scoring in the third commenced with Buffalos Kent Graham reducing the EAgles lead and netting his hat trick for the match. Billingham stalwart Tom Brown got his fourth of the night to push Eagles to a 2 goal lead when he scored an even handed goal assisted by Paul Windridge at 56:01. The icing was put on the cake for the Eagles at 59:21 when Andy Fletcher scored assisted by Mr assist Paul Windridge to close the game Buffalo 4 :Eagles 7.
A good night for the Eagles gave them a healthy lead for the home clash. Paul Windridge collected an assist in six of theEagles seven goals.
