BRADFORD BULLDOGS V BILLINGHAM EAGLES ED1 NORTH BRADFORD 17th OCTOBER 1999
With the result a fore gone conclusion only the score line was left open to debate , 22-1, the scoreline says it all. From the end of the first shift, there was only ever going to be one winner. The game saw Billingham build on slick passing and good over all team work, in a game where everyone played together, points aplenty where available for all. In fact, every Eagle made it onto the score sheet. The determination and unselfishness of the spirit was tipified by Captain "Spike" Windridge, who notched an unsurpassed 2+11 and gained himself yet another MOM trophy.
In a game where every player showed their worth, it's hard to pick out any one player. Brian Perry found space time and time again to gel the first line together culminating in goals for every player on the line (exept Burnsey, who seemed able to assist every thing).
15 year old Wallace showed the skill the lads have come to expect, silkly helping himself to 4+1, while young Liam Thompson pushed himself up the stats table with 3+3. Third liners Flett (2) and Griffths (1) both scored with finese following excellent interlinking play from their line mates.
From power play to short handed, the team continued the building process from the last match. Credit has to be given to the resilience of the Bradford team. At no point did they give up, every dropped puck was fought for and the match was played in good spirits bewteen both teams.
A late concelation goal against rookie keeper Wesley at the end of the third gave Bradford a 100% increase in their goal scoring stats.
With both sets of defence playing strongly together, in the abscense of Dowd, the positions for the Whitley game are going to be highly sought after. With Burns (0+5) & Perry (3+6) paired and Richardson (1+4) & Thornton (0+3) making up the second, questions are going to have to be asked of who will be playing together in the crucial Whitley Game.
From the back it's easy to see just how much the team have
developed together, the potential is there for Billingham to play not just
three line hockey, but to ice four strong lines. With the derby match being
the highlight of the regular season, it would be nice to see the fans at the
rink. Whitley are sure to bring their fans, who are quite simply "vocal,"
any player will tell you that a good crowd lifts the game, so I am sure that
both teams would love to have support.
