Game Summary
The Warriors were first to score at 7:09 when some nice skating and passing between Tindale and Mcginnety combined to allow Tindale to net the Warriors first assisted by Paul Mcginnety. First goal hero Paul Mcginnety turned villain when he collected the warriors first penalty of the night for holding at 8:06, the Warriors played the penalty off without loss. It was Whitley again in the driving seat for the second when all Whitley outfield players were tightly bunched inside the Billingham zone, a well placed pass from Andy Carter found Warriors capt Karl Culley who forced home to give the Warriors a 2 goal advantage.
2 minutes and 3 seconds into the second saw a flare up between Billingham youngster Scott Ward and Whitley senior (assistant Capt) Stuart Lonsdale after a protracted exchange of blows both were given 5 + Game penaltys for roughing. The Whitley penaltys continued to be called but Eagles could not get set up to capitalise on the resulting power plays, Carter 2 min tripping 25:30, Wilson 2 min holding 29:57, Paul Sample interference 33:00,and a coincidental at 36:11 Eagles Dale Taylor and Warriors Rob Wilson both holding.
A very low submarine check was delivered by Paul Graham to the legs of Eagles Gareth Crinnion, Bill Hannant awarded a five minute penalty and Graham was allowed to stay in the game.
With Whitley looking the more dangerous on the attack the game became stalemate as both teams tried to break the deadlock then at 46:11 Eagles Dale Taylor retaliated to some Daniel Ord high stcking, Ords answer was to prise Taylors face guard off and let some soft punches fly. Taylor was called for a 2 +2 for roughing and Ord was called for a 2 + 2 + 2 high sticking.
Eagles Dale Taylor sat for a 2 minue Tripping call at 54:20, then 56:47 Gareth Crinnion also sat for 2 minutes tripping. Although the Eagles tried for breakaways none were forthcoming, more superb work between the pipes by young Michael Snook kept the Eagles in with a shout.
