Sunday 21st November saw the Eagles fly west for their first game of the season against ED1 new boys the Blackburn Hawks.With nine straight wins under their belts the Eagles were to have a rude awakening.
1st Period
The Eagles camp were left reeling when the Hawks opened their scoring at 19 seconds into the first with a goal from Dan Mackreil.The Eagles were still finding their way into the game when the Hawks struck again at 01:55.The Eagles had their feathers well and truley ruffled when the Hawks went 3-0 up at 05:41. To add to the Eagles woes Tom Brown picked up a 2 minute penalty at 05:50 for unnecessary roughness. The Eagles played off the penalty without loss. At 08:21 Eagles again found themselves short handed when Ian Richardson picked up a 2 minute slashing penalty and Martin Lewis a 2 minute unsportsman conduct penalty. 11 seconds into their 5 on 3 power play the Hawks Mark Gabbkas picked up a 2 minute hooking penalty. With the Eagles penaltys played off the Billingham boys enjoyed a short power play which gave them their first goal of the night scored by Gary Dowd with assists from Ian Richardson and Martin Lewis just as the Hawks returned to full strength. Eagles Shaun Black found himself on the penalty bench when he picked up a 2 + 2 for elbows at 16:49. The fist closed Hawks 3 : Eagles 1.
2nd Period
Only 16 seconds into the second saw a power play goal scored by Dan Mackriel his second of the night assisted by Mark Macdonald and stalwart Bobby Haig. Mackriel found the net again to make it Hawks 5 : Eagles 1 at 24:33. Eagles Liam Thompson picked up a 2 minute roughing penalty at 29:36. The Hawks piled on the pressure to make it 6-1 when Bobby Haig scored unassisted at 35:07.Hawks Mark macdonald picked up a 2 minute tripping penalty at 36:12. The Eagles got their second for the night when Gary Dowd hit his second of the night unassisted at 38:07. Hawks picked up a 2 minute penalty at 38:22 and the second closed Hawks 6 : Eagles 2.
3rd Period
The Hawks opened the third with another early strike from Dan Mackreil getting his fourth of the night at 41:04. The Hawks closed their accoount for the night with their eigth goal scored at 45:45 by Craig Sharman. Eagles Andy Fletcher picked up a 2 minute slashing penalty at 48:43. Tom Brown scored short handed for the Eagles at 49:55 assisted by Paul Windridge and Ian Richardson. Under 2 minutes later saw Eagles Paul Winndridge score assisted by Brian Perry to reduce the Eagles defecit. Eagles again went short handed at 54:55 when Brian Perry sat for a 2 minute tripping penalty. Hawks captain and four times scorer of the night Dan Mackreil took an early shower at 57:16 when he was awarded a 5 + game as Eagles Paul Windridge scores assisted by net minder Adam Flett. At 59:22 Eagles Gary Dowd collected a five minute slashing penalty. The third closed Hawks 8 : Eagles 5.
