 KINGSTON JETS V BILLINGHAM EAGLES
   ED1 NORTH
HUMBERSIDE ICE ARENA 25TH SEP 1999

FIRST PERIOD

With the absense of Gary Dowd, Andy Fletcher, Andy Payne, Simon Heihr, John Aisbitt and Ste Fitzpatrick some concern was raised prior to the game about whether we could put out a team that could compete with one of the playoff contenders. To the credit of the Junior Development section, Ste Wallace, DJ Flett, Phil Pritchard and Tom Griffiths all made the step up to the eagles team, and made valuable contributions in the 9-3 victory that followed. Having taken the lead in the ninth minute through Tom Brown, Jets pulled the game two minutes later. A power play goal through Craig Bailes just before the period end gave the Eagles a 2-1 cushion going into the break.

SECOND PERIOD

The second period saw the youngsters "blooded" for the eagles with each one showing they are more deservent of wearing the team colours. Ste "Psycho" Wallace was unlucky not score after silkerly dancing through three players before having a top corner wrist shot tipped away by the hull keeper. With Martin Lewis adding two to the score and Tom firing his second, and third towards the end of the period, Billingham went into the second interval 6-1.

THIRD PERIOD

More than a little concerned about being being outscored, Martin Lewis complimented his brace of goals with a sweetly taken third from the high slot. Youngsters Tom Griffiths bagged his first for the Eagles as the period went on after some silky skills from Wallace gave the omnipresent Captain Paul "Spike" Windridge the break down the right, as he took on defencemen and goalie alike before unselfishly passing to the Rookie Griffiths to net for the eigth goal of the evening. The final goal of the evening came from a defensive one two between Richardson and Perry who placed the puck "powerfully" underneath the hull netminder with only 6 seconds left on the clock. Man of the match went to the formiddable Netminder Adam Flett who showed remarkable skills in stopping the barrage of shots from Hull.

Young "Veteran" Richard Thornton proved himself as always on defence, showing composure, vision and skill very rarely found in a sixteen year old. This weekend sees Billingham take on another of the stronger teams in the league with our first home game of the Season against Chris Kellands Sheffield.
