Saturday 27th November saw the Eagles welcome the players , fans and officials of the Kingston Jets. The return home from a defeat on the road last week at Blackburn, to face the only team to beat Eagles on their own Ice last season was never going to be an easy game.
1st Period
The first opened at a cracking pace 21 seconds into the first saw Eagles Capt. Paul Windridge collect a 2 minute holding penalty, the penalty was played off without loss. The game was still end to end when Eagles Andy Fletcher collected a 2 minute cross check penalty at 10:46, again this penalty was played off without loss. Kingston picked up a 2 minute tripping penalty at 11:14. Eagles were the first to score when Tom Brown blasted home a Martin Lewis pass that went under the pads of Kingston net minder Darren Blades. The fist closed Eagles 1 : Jets 0.
2nd Period
Jets opened their account with a goal scored at 23:32. Eagles second of the night came from Tom Brown , virtually a repeat of goal 1 with an assist for Martin Lewis and Stephen Wallace at 28:13. Kingston found themselves short handed at 29:03 for a 2 minute slashing penalty, having played off the penalty Kingston leveled the scores at 2 each at 33:03. Just 27 seconds later saw Stephen Wallace pick his spot and lift the puck over Darren Blades in the Kingston net, assisted by Martin Lewis and Tom Brown. Eagles went short handed at 35:11 when Paul Windridge sat for 2 minutes for an unsportsman conduct penalty, he was joined when Tom Brown collected a 2 minute interference penalty following a clean hit on Net minder Darren Blades who was out of his crease with the puck under control at the end of his stick. With the Eagles reduced to 3 men spikes penalty was played off, the Eagles then returned to 4 players and some good passing from Gary Dowd and Brian Perry and Paul Windridge resulted in Dowdy being well placed in the slot to score short handed at 37:50 that made it Eagles 4 : Jets 2. A goal mouth scramble for an uncovered puck resulted in some rough stuff with Eagles Ian Richardson and Jets Chris Hobson both sitting for 2 minute roughing penalty. The last minute of the third saw Andy Fletcher find the net assisted by Simon " Burner " Burns to close the second Eagles 5 : Jets 2.
3rd Period
The action in the third commenced when Eagles Martin Lewis scored assisted by Stephen Wallace at 43:45. Jets reduced their deficit with a goal from Matt Street at 45:53. Jets picked up a 2 minute tripping penalty at 46:09, Eagles were unable to capitilise on the power play , however at 48:54 Tom Brown hit his hat trick goal with assists from Martin Lewis and Brian Perry. Thirty six seconds later saw Martin Lewis net his second of the night assisted by Stephen Wallace. Just under 4 minutes later saw hit his fourth for the night assisted by Stephen Wallace at 53:53.The Jets picked up a 2 minute interference penalty at 57:77, they were punished when Paul Windridge scored un-assisted to take the Eagles into double figures and close the game at Billingham Eagles 10 : Kingston Jets 2.
