There are at least three different locations for programs that
start after Windows starts. AutoStartManager allows you to see them
on one screen, and enable/disable them. This is useful for instance
when you're travelling away from the office and you need to disable
all these tools that make sense when you're connected to the company's
network, but only slow down your computer when you're away. A useful complement to AutoStartManager is StartupMonitor. It monitors changes to the startup items and asks for confirmation. Update 19/05/2002 : Version 1.2 : include display of services for NT/2000/XP. You can not change their status though. I think it'd open a can of worms with users who don't know what they are doing. If you want to enable/disable services, use the control panel. If you don't know what a service is, stay away from it altogether. 23/02/2002 : fixed a problem with deletion of disabled items. |
