The British Army Veterinary Corps (AVC) shoulder badge is part of Harry & Edna's artefacts collection.

We have featured this image because Ted Sparrow emailed this story about his family members who served in the AVC.

Ted says
"The reserve sailors were mobilised for the Spithead Review before WW1 started.

The Army reservists were called to the colours on the August Bank holiday and the horses were called up the next day under the war plan.

My Uncle served with the AVC during WW1. Many of our family were vets; my great grandfather, 3 of his sons including my grandfather and my uncle & my cousin amongst others.

My Grandfather was the last "Ancient Practitioners" under the 1947 Act. He and his brothers were still practising in their 90s.

Regards

Ted Sparrow"
