The above image is from the Pershing's Doughboys Living History Group. When this image was first published we received an email regarding the accuracy of the uniforms.

Duncan Aran chairman of Pershing's Doughboys replies.

"The leggings are in fact the M1917 version.  The comments are quite correct that the cavalry variant has the leather lining on the inside of the leg....

I have several pairs either too big or too small.....

Unlike the M1938 Legging, the M1917 has bronze cleats, and a web loop to fasten the under boot strap...rather than a blackened metal buckle of the M1938.

Normally the Officer would wear either riding boots, or M1907 Leather spiral wrap legging.....again my pair of these is too fragile to wear.

The m1903 Enlisted Spiral wrap legging was also common for the enlisted infantry men......

Remember of course that the Border patrols carried on well into the 1920's.... in fact one of the little known facts, was that one of the largest fleets of de-rigigible aircraft patrolled along the border well into the 1920's.... operated by the USN Air service.

I totally agree that for 1916...Across the border, that the impression is slightly different. Well done that man for spotting the difference!!"
