Welcome to the Estover and District Allotments and Gardens Association's On-line Magazine, I hope that people find it interesting and useful. The magazine has primarily been set up to provide information to members of the organisation on a local basis, but eventually, we hope it may help and assist fellow gardeners and allotmenteers both nationally and worldwide.
We are a small group of about 86 members who grow fruit, flowers and vegetables on a small south facing in the South-West of England. The association was formed on the 1st July 1985 to promote relationships between allotmenteers and the local community, to foster gardening as a way or relaxation, stimulation and reward, and to represent allotment holders at Blunts Lane Allotments in matters regarding tenancy etc..
Gardening has always fostered a sense of community, and allotments are an ideal place for meeting people with a similar interest, that of gardening. The benefits of keeping an allotment are enormous, not only will it keep you fit but it will provide a wealth of flowers, fruit and vegetables throughout the season for little expense. Establishing a community enables us to swap and exchange surpluses, such as seeds and seedlings, vegetables and fruit, but also allows for the exchange of ideas and information, and enables us to recycle which is so important for those on low incomes.
Information on the availability of allotments at Blunts Lane, Estover can be found on another page of this site should anyone in the local area wish to apply for one.
See Availability of Allotments.
Full rental concessions also exist for those in receipt of Income Support and the only costs involved are in the sharing of water rates which are approximately £9 per annum per person, per plot.
As an association, we are a non-profit makin organisation and exist to support our members. We are always looking at new ways to provide help and assistance, and should any member have any suggestions I will always be glad to discuss them and raise them before the committee.
Again I hope you enjoy the magazine.
Enjoy your Gardening.
