Nichiren Daishonin inscribed the first gohonzon for the happiness of one of his disciples.

Later, when he made the Dai-Gohonzon, he did it for the happiness of all people.

In the Gohonzon are the names of different people, some real and some from stories, who represent different feelings that people have, like love, anger, greed, hope, generosity and so forth.
