LUKE SKYWALKER’S GOHONZON
To illustrate how important the Gohonzon is, for fun I have written out what Luke Skywalker may have included in his personal gohonzon. It should help you to understand Nichiren’s Gohonzon that we as Nichiren Daishonin’s Buddhists chant to.
15) Boba Fett
16) Jabba the Hutt
17) Darth Vader
18) The Emperor
19) Grand Moff Tarkin
20) Bib Fortuna
The Force (1) is the central, guiding feature in Luke’s (2) life. Either side of this at the top (3 & 4) are the two most powerful Jedi masters, whose characteristics are Wisdom and Courage. At (5,6,7 & 8) we have the leading supportive characters. They have Strength (8), Fortitude (6), Resilience (5), Integrity (7).
(9 – 14) Are the ordinary peoples who have risen up against injustice.
(15 – 20) Represents the Dark side of Force. Though these are not important in Luke’s life, they are still there – hidden under the surface.
At one time Luke’s Father Anakin had a Gohonzon like this. But when he turned to the Dark Side and became Darth Vader, it became topsy-turvy.
The Dark forces went to the top and the nobler forces of the Jedi ways became hidden under the surface.
