Sniper Scope Effect

Sniper Scope Effect

You need Adobe Photoshop 6 or higher (it may work on earlier version)

We'll be creating an image like the one on the left.

You can download the center action here

Step 1

Create a new image, 400 x 400 in size and fill it with black, then go to filter | texture | grain and set both sliders to 100 and the grain type to soft.

Step 2

Go to image | adjustments | hue/saturation (ctrl + u) and check the colorize box, then put the saturation slider to 0 and the lightness to +10

Step 3

Go to filter | blur | radial blur and put the following settings:

Amount: 4

Method: Zoom

Quality: Best

Step 4

Select the rounded rectangle tool and create a rectangle anywhere on the image, the width should be 226 and height should be 132

Step 5

If you downloaded my center action skip this step

Ctrl click the shape layer and go to layer | align the selection | vertical center then layer | align to selection horizontal center, press ctrl + d

Step 6

Ctrl + click the layer then click the eye icon next to it, we need it later, select the first layer then press ctrl + u, check the colorize box then put 113 in the hue box and 40 in the saturation box, click ok. DO NOT DESELECT

Step 7

Create a new layer and fill it with black, go to select | modify | contract and type 1 and click ok, press delete, deselect

Step 8

Now we need to create the crosshair, create a new layer and select the elliptical marquee tool, create a 14 x 14 selection and fill it with a light blue, I used 00B4FF, go to select | modify | contract and put 2 in the box, click ok and press delete, center it (step 6 if you haven't got my action) and set the layer opacity to 60 %

Step 9

For the text select the type tool and choose Arial black as your font, size 12 pixels, and the blue you used earlier type 2X or whatever zoom factor you want, then using the move tool put it in the lower left hand corner of the green area, set the layer opacity to 60%

Note: for larger images you'll need to use a larger amount in the blur

this is the only tutorial on this site, therefore there is no page in the Photoshop folder, if I add more there'll be a main page
