History


1908
SK Brann is established on the 26th of September.

1909
Brann plays their first match ever on January 1st. 1-1 against Bergen FK. On August 15th they get their first victory (3-2 against Stavanger IF).

1915
Participates for the first time in the national Cup. Loses 0-8 for Kvik Halden in the 2nd round.

1916
Beats cup winners Frigg 1-0 in Oslo.

1917
Brann buys a site in Fridalen to build a stadium.
Loses for Sarpsborg in the Cup Final.

1918
Loses 0-4 for Kvik Halden in the Cup Final.
Finn Berstad and Alexander Nagelsett Olsen makes their appearances for Brann.
Sigurd Wathne becomes Brann's first player on the national team.

1919
Brann Stadion is consecrated on the 25th of May. Brann plays the national team and loses 2-6.

1923
Brann wins the Cup after a 2-1 victory over Lyn in the final.

1925
Brann wins the Cup for the second time. Beats Fredrikstad 3-0 in the final.

1933
Becomes Norwegian champions for youth teams.

1940-45
Denies all its members to go in for sports under NIF, lead by Quisling's nazi government.
11 Brann men loses their life for the country in the war.

1946
First national game on Brann Stadion.

1947
Attendance record on Brann Stadion. 24,000 against Viking in the Cup. (Loss 0-1).

1948
Secures participation in the new Main League.

1949
Relegated to 1st division.

1950
Wins promotion to the Main League.
Loses 0-3 for Fredrikstad in the Cup Final.

1953
Relegated.

1954
Promoted.
Norwegian Champions for youth teams.

1956
Relegated.

1957
Promoted.

1958
Celebrates the 50th anniversary by becoming Norwegian Champions for youth teams.

1960
Roald "Kniksen" Jensen makes his first appearance for both Brann and the national team, only 17 year old.

1961
New attendance record in the Semi Final in the Cup against Fredrikstad. It was sold 24,800 tickets, but it is said to have been about 10,000 spectators outside the stadium.
Top of the table half way into the marathon league.

1962
On the 14th of October Brann wins 4-1 over Rosenborg in Trondheim, and thereby wins the league for the first time.

1963
Champions for the second year in a row.

1964
Relegated to 2nd division.

1967
Promoted to 1st division. (The top division).

1972
Beats Rosenborg in the Cup Final.

1973
Brann Stadion gets flood lighting.
Plays for the first time in the European Cup. (Beats Gzira from Malta 2-0).
Kniksen makes his last appearance for Brann.

1975
Runners-up in the league. (First medal in 12 years).

1976
Cup Winners after a 2-1 victory over Sogndal in the final.

1978
Loses 1-2 for Lillestrøm in the Cup Final.
Relegated to 2nd division.
Tore Nortvedt makes his 557th and last appearance for Brann. (Club record).

1980
Wins promotion to 1st division.
Becomes Norwegian Champions for youth teams.

1981
Relegated to 2nd division.

1982
Promoted to 1st division.
Beats Varegg 9-1 in the last match of the season. (Club record).
Wins the Cup after a 3-2 victory over Molde in the final.

1983
Relegated to 2nd division.

1984
Promoted to 1st division.

1985
Relegated to 2nd division.

1986
Promoted to 1st division.

1987
Loses 0-1 for Bryne in the Cup Final.
Kniksen dies under training on October 6th.

1988
Reaches the Cup Final where they draw Rosenborg 2-2. Loses the replay 0-2.

1995
Trond Egil Soltvedt (player) and Hallvar Thoresen (coach) are sacked.
Plays Rosenborg in the Cup Final again. The first match ends 1-1, but Brann loses 1-3 in the replay.

1997
Runners-up in the league. (First medal since 1975).
Reaches the Quarter Final in the Cup Winner's Cup after beating PSV Eindhoven.
