I went to Ogley Hay Girls School and then worked at Brownhills Police Station for many years. I now live on the Notts/Derby border but still visit my mum in Brownhills regularly. Enjoyed reading the site .. and I remember some of the names in the Guest Book. Keep up the good work - nice to see a site about my old home town. |

Anyone who has information on the FRYER family who were coal miners in Ogley-Hay, I would appreciate contact. |

Great site, I am currently working on my family tree and the majority of my family have lived in Brownhills. This has helped me to picture life way back.
Keep up the good work |

Viewers with an interest in local railways may like to see my own blogsite (link enclosed). I look forward to more Brownhills articles and photo's, keep up the good work, regards, Gaz |

xappleton@yahoo.co.uk | 27-03-2007 - 15:52 - from 88-109-1-50.dynamic.dsl.as9105.com Wow, it is so good to see these pics and read the trails of the canals and railways etc. My dad and I did a similar railway tour for a school history project 15yrs ago & it was great fun!
Its incredible to look at your photos because I grew up roaming the commons and had spent much time as a teen sitting atop various parapets or walking along the track sites, I recognise almost every photo.
I lived in Brownhills & Clayhanger between 1986 & 2002, my dad's family (Appleton) longer. Its amazing and sad how much change I've seen alone. I still remember the Brewery (site of old Fire House too) at the end of the high street, witnessed it being demolished and peered into its bowels before Aldi was built on its place. Just one of so many old buildings in the area that haven't survived the onslaught of time and modern necessity... So sad... A place built by generations of hard-labourers & their values, its a pity to see its future shrouded with uncertainty. I hope the regeneration projects have success! |
