| The Pits of the area were served by many small tramways and railways, some of the tramways were horse drawn, others pulled the coal wagons with a stationary engine.
In 1853 J.R.McClean was commisioned by the Marquis of Anglesey to engineer a line between his Hammerwich pit at the foot of Chasewater dam, and the Uxbridge pit in Chasetown, to the South Staffs Railway.These pit were later known as Cannock Chase Collieries No1 & 2. This line would also connect to the Cannock pits. The line of the trackbed still remains, and some relics can still be seen. |
