Bird Sightings for November 2003

November 27th: A Whooper Swan within the Mute Swan herd at Burniere Point today.

November 26th: Two Greylag Geese were present at the Amble Marshes today.

November 21st: Mike Lawson reported a Great Northern Diver off Tregonce today.

November 19th: This morning on the N.R.A. Pools at Wadebridge a Spotted Crake was heard calling and was eventually seen. On the estuary eight, (six adult, and single first and second winters), Mediterranean Gulls were noted at Pinkson Creek, while four, (one male), Northern Pintail were off Dinham Flats. (CS).

November 18th: A Great Northern Diver flew into the outer estuary and then flew out again today. 500 European Golden Plover were counted in the Dinham Area.

November 17th: A Barn Owl was reported from the Camel Trail this morning below Tregonce.

November 16th: The WeBs count today produced the following; eight Little Grebe, 18 Great Cormorant, 25 Eurasian Shag, 30 Little Egret, 19 Grey Heron, 42 Mute Swan, one Black Swan, 29 Common Shelduck, 1 Muscovy Duck (in Padstow Harbour), 213 Eurasian Wigeon, 53 Mallard, two Eurasian Teal, 227 Oystercatcher, two Ringed Plover, one Grey Plover, five European Golden Plover, 922 Northern Lapwing, 152 Dunlin, eight Common Snipe, five Black-tailed Godwit, five Bar-tailed Godwit, 203 Eurasian Curlew, one Spotted Redshank, 138 Common Redshank, seven Common Greenshank, one Common Sandpiper, four Turnstone, four Mediterranean Gull, (two adult and two first winter), 1797 Black-headed Gull, 101 Common Gull, 48 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 542 Herring Gull, 142 Great Black-backed Gull, a Razorbill and two Common Kingfisher. A Peregrine Falcon was noted hunting over the Town bar, Padstow. Six Moorhen were noted on Dennis Pool. At Trewince a first winter Mediterranean Gull was noted in a field feeding with Black-headed Gull.

November 14th: A female Northern Pintail was noted at the Amble Confluence. A Common Sandpiper was noted at Guineaport today.

November 7th: A count on the estuary by Mike Lawson today produced 12 Red Knot, two Black-tailed Godwit, 37 Mute Swan, two Grey Heron, two Brent Geese, two Common Goldeneye, minimum of 170 Eurasian Wigeon, 20 Dunlin, one Common Greenshank, one Little Grebe, 24 Common Shelduck.

November 5th: A visit to the gull roost off Padstow tonight yielded a first winter Ring-billed Gull, 54 Mediterranean Gull, (22 adult, 18 second winter and 14 first winter), over 300 Common Gull and three first winter Common Tern. (CS).

November 4th: Mike Lawson reported an adult Mediterranean Gull in Little Petherick Creek today.
