This page contains up to date information of all bird sightings within the Camel Estuary Area and its immediate environs.

The sightings below are mainly my own , all others are credited to the observer and are unchecked.

April 26th;

 

CAMEL ESTUARY, 12 Mallard were present between Wadebridge and Pendavey Bridge today and the Black Swan was still present at Wadebridge.

 

CLAPPER MARSHES, an unringed Barnacle Goose was present this afternoon together with seven Canada Geese, four Shelduck, 85 Swallow, 24 House Martin, 45 Sand Martin, and two Siskin.

 

SLADESBRIDGE, a Sedge Warbler was noted singing in the reed-bed today.

 

April 25th;

 

CAMEL ESTUARY, A full estuary count was conducted today as part of the national WeBs count scheme run by the B.T.O. and the W.W.T.  For the results please click on the following link:- Webs count April 25th

Highlights included 23 Little Egret, 98 Whimbrel, 25 Black-tailed Godwit, a Razorbill, three Sandwich Tern and a brood of 18 Mallard duckling at Little Petherick.

Along the Camel Trail other species noted included a singing male Lesser Whitethroat at Dennis Hill, a Cuckoo at Old Town Cove and a Yellow Wagtail at Tregunna.

 

AMBLE MARSHES, a female Garganey was present today as was ten Eurasian Teal, eight Canada Geese, two Eurasian Wigeon and 16 Mallard.

 

CLAPPER MARSHES, eight Canada Geese were on the pools this evening and a Peregrine Falcon hunted over head. The Mallard brood has now decreased to two.

 

STEPPER POINT, this morning a female Merlin was noted as was a Grasshopper Warbler, and four Common Whitethroat.

April 24th;

 

CAMEL ESTUARY, the Black Swan was at Wadebridge this morning.

 

April 23rd;

 

CAMEL ESTUARY, the Black Swan was on the island at the Old Bridge at Wadebridge this morning.

 

CLAPPER MARSHES, Colin Selway noted seven Shelduck today.

 

April 22nd;

 

CAMEL ESTUARY, this morning the Black Swan was at Wadebridge and a Common Sandpiper was present at Egloshayle.

 

CLAPPER MARSHES, this afternoon a Wheatear was present on the pools, other species noted included four Shelduck, seven Canada Geese, four Sand Martin, ten Swallow and a Grey Wagtail.

 

April 21st;

 

AMBLE MARSHES, 300 Sand Martin were watched hawking this wetland this morning together with 40 Swallow and three House Martin. A Yellow Wagtail was heard flying over. Other species noted included two Eurasian Wigeon, nine Eurasian Teal, ten Canada Geese, 18 Mallard, a Peregrine, a single Dunlin, a Snipe, and a Little Grebe.

 

CLAPPER MARSHES, this afternoon four Canada Geese were noted together with 30 Sand Martin, ten Swallow and a Common Sandpiper.

 

April 20th;

 

CAMEL ESTUARY, today in the Burniere Area, three Black-tailed Godwit were noted together with a Bar-tailed Godwit, two Common Sandpiper, two Whimbrel and 35 Eurasian Wigeon.

 

CLAPPER MARSHES, 200 Sand Martin, six House Martin and 50 Swallow were present today, also noted were two Shelduck, a Common Sandpiper and a singing Chiffchaff.

 

April 19th;

 

CAMEL ESTUARY, a male Garganey was present on the river near Egloshayle Church, this bird was seen earlier on Clapper Marshes. At Wadebridge a Common Sandpiper was present as was the Black Swan, seven Mallard and two Cormorant.

 

CLAPPER MARSHES, the male Garganey was still present this evening before being chased off by one of the two Shelduck that were present. 160 Sand Martins were hawking the pools, with 30 Swallow and three House Martin. Eight Canada Geese were also noted. Colin Selway also observed a Sedge Warbler singing here this morning. A Green Woodpecker was also present.

April 18th;

 

CLAPPER MARSHES, the two Garganey were still present this morning. Just after first light Colin Selway noted up to 1000 Sand Martins over the pools together with 450 Swallow and eleven House Martin, these birds appeared to have been driven down by the heavy rain at the time. A female Eurasian Teal was also noted as was three Snipe and three Common Sandpiper. The Mallard brood has decreased to five today.

 

April 17th;

CLAPPER MARSHES, four, (one male), GARGANEY on the pools this afternoon. Also present were two Common Sandpiper, a Snipe, 40 Swallow, 60 Sand Martin and seven House Martin.

 

CAMEL ESTUARY, a Common Sandpiper and a Little Egret was at Wadebridge this morning and the Black Swan was also present.

April 16th;

 

CLAPPER MARSHES, this morning a Hobby was noted by Colin Selway hunting the hirundines before drifting off towards Wadebridge, also noted was 80 Sand Martin, four House Martin, 50 Swallow and four Common Sandpiper.

This afternoon 85 Swallow and 65 Sand Martins were noted, also present were four Common Sandpiper, a Snipe, a brood of eleven Mallard ducklings, four Lesser Black-backed Gull and 24 Herring Gull.

 

April 15th;

 

PENTIRE/RUMPS, five Northern Wheatear and a Rock Pipit of the race littoralis were noted by Colin Selway today.

 

April 12th;

 

CAMEL ESTUARY, two more Barnacle Geese joined the usual pair today. (Colin Selway).

 

April 11th;

 

CLAPPER MARSHES, two Swifts were noted over the pools today, (Colin Selway).

 

April 10th;

 

WADEBRIDGE, Colin Selway noted a movement of Sparrowhawk over the town today with seven female noted in the air at one time. Other single birds were also noted during the day.

 

April 9th;

 

CAMEL ESTUARY, an adult SPOONBILL was present at Burniere Point today as was three Goldeneye, (Colin Selway).

 

April 8th;

 

CLAPPER MARSHES, 60 Swallow, 40 Sand Martin and 22 House Martin were noted by Colin Selway today.

 

April 7th;

 

WADEBRIDGE, a Willow Warbler was noted sing at Victoria Park this morning. A single Sparrowhawk was noted at Two Trees.

 

CORONATION PARK, a male Blackcap was noted singing.

 

AMBLE MARSHES, seven Black-tailed Godwit were present this evening, other species noted included 40 Sand Martin, a Swallow, two Northern Shoveler, 15 Eurasian Teal, and 19 Canada Geese.

 

GROGLEY HALT, a Dipper and a Kingfisher were noted. Woodland species were in good voice with Treecreeper, up to six Chiffchaff and Great Spotted Woodpecker noted.

 

April 6th;

 

AMBLE MARSHES, this morning a pair of GARGANEY were noted by Colin Selway. 33 Canada Geese were present this evening as was 15 Mallard, 17 Eurasian Teal, two Northern Shoveler, a Black-tailed Godwit, 60 Sand Martin, two Swallow, two Little Grebe and a Little Egret.

 

CAMEL ESTUARY, 42 Mute Swan were at Burniere Point as was the Black Swan.

April 5th;

 

CLAPPER MARSHES, a single Common and two Green Sandpiper was present today as were two Siskin, 40 Sand Martin, 16 Swallow, a House Martin, 20 Linnet, a female Eurasian Teal and five Shelduck. Colin Selway also noted a male White Wagtail.

 

CAMEL ESTUARY, the two Barnacle Geese were still present at Egloshayle.

 

April 4th;

 

CLAPPER MARSHES, 30 Sand Martin were noted by Colin Selway as were two Green Sandpiper and a Sparrowhawk.

 

April 3rd;

PENTIRE/RUMPS, two Swallows were noted as were two Peregrine Falcons, a Sparrowhawk, 40 Linnet, two Chiffchaff and a Yellowhammer.

 

CAMEL ESTUARY, seven Sandwich Tern were off Rock this morning and a Rock Pipit was present by Rock Lifeboat Station. In the Dinham Area 32 Black-tailed Godwit and 42 Eurasian Wigeon were noted.

 

N.R.A. POOLS, a Water Rail was noted calling and a Willow Warbler was heard singing.

 

April 2nd;

 

CAMEL ESTUARY, the Black Swan was at Wadebridge again this morning as was a Little Egret. The two Barnacle Geese were at Egloshayle.

 

TOLLGATE, a Barn Owl was once again noted near the supermarket.

 

April 1st;

 

CAMEL ESTUARY, the Black Swan was present at the Old Bridge at Wadebridge this morning. The two Barnacle Geese were at Egloshayle.

 

WADEBRIDGE, a Chiffchaff was singing at Jubilee Field this morning.

 

TOLLGATE, a Barn Owl was noted near the supermarket.
