Rhondda and Swansea Bay Railway - Gelli Tunnel

Opened :1900

Closed : 1964

Engineering code : RSB

Length: 160m

The R&SBR runs parallel to the GWR Abergwynfi branch in the narrow Afan valley. The GWR branch arrived first and took the easier route, leaving the R&SBR having to negotiate less level ground. The R&SBR is most famous for its 3443 yard long Rhondda tunnel. The Gelli Tunnel though is easily accessible. The tunnel is slightly curved, and lined in stone and brick
