Welcome
to the Cardiffrail Website.
12/07
This Website is changing soon. Please note that during the
changes,
some internal links, especially images will be unavailable.
I
will be adding more rail trackbed walk galleries and expanding the
tunnels section.
There
will also be significant changes to the derelict structures part of
this site.
The Cardiffrail site is a project to explore and document disused railways, tunnels and industrial buildings in south Wales and the Midlands of England. At the moment the site is divided into 3 sections: Trackbed guides, Abandoned stations and tunnels and Other exploraions aka ' Urbex' such as abandoned buildings and military sites.
This is the new, improved version. Two weeks of hard work moving the site off the old geocities server and reformatting. Coming up there will be a couple of new features, including a series of maps showing the growth and decline of the railway network in south Wales from 1840 to present and also an article discussing the links between the geological history of the area and the industrial history of the area. Please check back often as I regularly add to the site and fix errors - err yeah right, see below!!.
**Important!** Copyright notice. The vast majority of the photos, text and artwork on this site was created by myself. Please respect my copyright for material on this site. You are free to download anything from this site. However, if you wish to republish my material, please credit me and if you publish online, provide a link-back to this site. Thank you. Stuck in a frame??? Just right-click a link and 'open in new window', that way if you have to refresh a page, it won't take you back to the splash screen. Recommended for visiting off-site links.
Remember, my site does not have 'bugs' you just might find 'unexpected features' Many of my pics are stored on Imageshack.us. They seem to have been having problems recently. Therefore you might find a fair number of dead images. I'm hoping the situation will resolve itself, otherwise I'll have to manually replace them using a different host. Since I run this site myself and now have a job (formerly a student with nothing better to do - well it kept me out of the pub during the daytime), I can't tend to it the whole time. Don't Panic, this site is not going to go down overnight! For the time being updates, additions and error-fixing is a low priority for me. I still go exploring, but I don't have the time to update the site. Also, it is unlikely that there will be any more additions to railways or urbex in south Wales besides sites I have already visited but have not uploaded yet. I now live in Warwickshire and the site will, in due course continue to document disused railways and buildings in the Midlands of England. The website address and the name 'Cardiffrail' will remain the same. I have no wish to confuse visitors with a re-branding exercise.
Added feature : Google Maps type mashup used to locarte all Urbex sites. This inclused those that I know of as well as those I have visited. Here . Click on one of the site names to get to south Wales (It auto starst in the US unfortunately)
!!! IMPORTANT!!!
Some of these locations are on private property and some others are dangerous. This site is a gallery of locations, not a guide to get yourself hurt or arrested. I cannot be held responsible for any misuse of information- so if you visit these sites and have problems, that is your responsibility. Locations are depicted 'as seen' when visited. I am not responsible for any subsequent visitor finding that a site has been demolished or secured.
