With an additional lake, 7 stretches of river Great Ouse and 5 on the river Ivel plus I.P.A sections the club offers outstanding Fishing for a wide variety of differing species.
A brief insight into the waters available are detailed below and within the various water category sections.
Gingerbread lake is gravel pit situated between Eaton Socon and Wyboston in Cambridgeshire with an enviable reputation for specimen fish. Excavated in the early 1980’s this 18 acre water came under the control of the club in 1987 and has been developed and nurtured to provide a feature packed fishery which is tree and reed lined with intimate bays and points with isolated lilly pad beds.
The lake has excellent access with most swims being accessible by car around the recently refurbished track running around most of the lake (weather permitting).
Gingerbread lake holds a large stock of specimen sized fish with carp to 34lb, bream to 11.3 lb, tench to 9lb, rudd to nearly 4lb, roach to 3lb , pike to over 27lb and eels to 6.8lb.
Although not always welcomed by the carp anglers very large shoals of bream and tench are present, but are infrequently fished for, but when they are, 80lb nets are more than possible. The rudd and roach population within this fishery are growing on to exceptional sizes to those prepared to fish fo r them and are really an untapped resource.
The predator anglers frequently catch good size pike, eels and very large perch that inhabit the lake and when a pick up occurs around dusk during the summer months you really don’t know what you will hook into.
The stock of carp within the lake is in excess of 500 fish in the form of mirrors, linears, fully scaled, leathers and commons. Whilst the record is in excess of 34lb other known 30’s exist with many fish in the twenty bracket and growing fast in this rich water.
The lake has extensive weed beds harbouring a great natural food resource , with snails, shrimp and mussel present which some times makes the water most challenging to entice the population to feed on carp baits.
The lake is made up of many bays and adjoining channels of differing depths and features :
Factory bay , Deep water bay, Pump house bay, Main channel, Main lake, Two bar bay, and Road bank bay.
An average depth of 7ft with deep sections of 27ft are present, over a variety of sand, silt and gravel bottoms.
With intimate marginal swims in many locations most of the fishing is at short range, with other areas a slightly larger chuck to reach the fish. Standard tactics work well with the fish responding to good quality boilies, well cooked spod or particles.
The water can be fished all year round with no close season present, and generally fishes well even during the winter months. Night fishing is available on the lake by a permit at additional cost and subject to availability.
For details on this and other waters please contact the local tackle shops listed on the river sections page.
The Links lake adjoins Gingerbread lake by a hard concourse under the A428 bypass and is a 3 acre match and pleasure fishing lake. With 28 pegs and fishable on two banks it offers superb fishing for the float and pole angler.
Heavily stocked with over 3000 carp up to 20lb , crucian carp to 1.8lb, tench to 6lb+, bream to 8lb+, thousands of silverfish , perch and pike to 20lb this really is a brilliant all round water.
The club acquired the rights to this water two years ago and have spent a substantial amount in money and resources to provide excellent fish stocks and good quality swims.
The under water lake features tend to be a mixture of silt , weed and gravel of an average 7ft depth with one prominent gravel bar present.
The shoals of carp and bream are often seen basking in the “golf link” bay in large numbers or close to the bar during warmer days.
During the winter months the predator fishing comes to the fore with good action from the pike and perch on a variety of methods including plug / lure or dead baiting.
