SAILING BARGES

This spliced together shot taken in Kampen shows three large klippers with a schoener in the centre.
HASSELTERAAK
This back end belongs to a
Hasselteraak. The smaller boat is an "opduwer" used to
push the larger un-engined craft.
FRIESE TJALK
The
central hatchway, rather than the more typical starboard side
entrance, leading to the main cabin shows that this tjalk was
built in Friesland. The decoration on the tiller illustrating the
"horn of plenty" is typical of ships built here.
GRONINGER TJALK
On the right is a
Groninger tjalk, flanked by a klipper and on the far left, a
klipperaak
HEKTJALK
The built up
section at the rear of the cockpit and the distinctive, tall,
rudder-stock show this to be a hektjalk.
