 Bellingham Walks

Walk Bellingham in Northumberland. Bellingham is a great base for walking and exploring both the local area and Kielder forest and water.

My favorite walks in the Bellingham area of Northumberland explores Hareshaw Linn and Kielder Forest.

Starting at Bellingham the short walk to Hareshaw Linn wonderful woodland walk, which follows the Hareshaw Dene up to The Linn, a 30-ft waterfall. Linn is the old English term for waterfall. More details of this walk are available here.

Bellingham

Bellingham, Northumberland.

Bellingham - A small attractive stone built village, which is the gateway to Kielder Water and forest. It lies just on the edge of the National Park.

It is steeped in history and its church, St Cuthberts, shows what a wild harsh place it would have been. It received its defensive features (stone vaulted nave and south transept roof) after 1603 when England and Scotland were united under one crown. It makes you wonder how scared the locals were of the Scots. Legend says twice they burned down the church, so it makes you realise what a frontier town it would have been.

For a village with such a long history there are very few buildings that date back to before the 19th Century. Thankfully now it is a much more peaceful village with a lovely waterfall walk, which is featured on this site.
