Click here for more details of the Hadrians Wall walks. In my opinion, this walk explores one of the finest stretches of Hadrian’s Wall and gives you a great impression of how great a structure it would have been during the Roman times.

Hexham Abbey

Hexham, Northumberland.

Hexham is the ‘Capital of Tynedale. A magnificent town steeped in history and is a superb location from which to explore Hadrians Wall.

Its centrepiece is Hexham Abbey, which was founded by St Wilfrid in 674. In the crypt inscriptions can be read in the stone, which was originally taken from Hadrian’s Wall to build the church after the Romans had left.
