Otterburn, Northumberland. Otterburn is a small village with a population of about 500, but it certainly has had a bloody past. The famous battle of Otterburn in 1388 was a brutal affair and the Scots were victorious in battle. The English survivors fought as they retreated as far as Elsdon, then they fled on to the moors around the village. Some of the unlucky ones were rounded up and taken prisoner. Otterburn has some fine fortified buildings, which were built to resist the constant attacks occurring over the centuries. |
