Colts Paul Baker, Colts Co-ordinator writes: “The formation of Chipps Colts came as a result of a Club Extraordinary General Meeting in 1994. The Club was struggling at that time with no new players joining and the same old players growing old together. Over time this is a dilemma that has faced and is facing other sports Clubs in Worthing and we decided, as a Club, to invest our time and energy into youth cricket.” It was agreed that the Club would withdraw from the Worthing Evening Cricket League and set up a Junior Section. Paul Baker, together with his wife Carol and Jerry White managed to obtain a bag of kit from a local sports shop and arranged for some nets at St Andrews School. Posters were sent around the town and an advert appeared in the local paper inviting youngsters between 14 and 16 to come along and have a go. “You could say once the decision was made we never looked back and as a Club over the years a number of young people have been introduced to cricket and have become a vital part of our Cricket Club. Who could have predicted that in the ten years the Colts have been running we would have achieved the following:
The Colts are the lifeblood of Chippingdale Cricket Club and we hope through working with them and sharing important Club values such as trust, honesty, and loyalty that this is reciprocated in their commitment to us both on and off the field of play. From the group of youngsters we work with, it is.” Indoor nets start at St Andrews School in February 2005. Further details can be obtained by looking at our nets page or contacting Paul Baker on 01903-211290. We also run outdoor nets later in the season, dates and times to be arranged. |
