Committee The club is reliant on the current committee for its success and growth. The majority of the committee are long-standing players of the club, and have held their positions for a number of years. The 2004 committee consists of: Dave White – President The club president, Dave “Doggy” White is the club’s longest serving player, having first played for Chipps in 1966. He has managed the impressive feat of retiring from work before retiring from cricket. Dave would have us believe that he was once a class batsman, with one century to his name, but his love of the hoick shot to cow corner doesn’t support this. It is fair to say that Dave is “Mr Chipps,” and is one of the most admired and popular of local cricketers. Dick Smith - Chairman and Sunday Captain David Smith, known to everyone at the club as Dick, is currently our Chairman. Dick started playing for the club in 1977, having been spotted playing for Durrington High School by Don White, Jerry’s father. In 2003 Dick was the captain of our Sunday XI and this role will continue for 2004. Paul Baker - Secretary and Colts Co-ordinator Paul is the clubs secretary, a position he has held since 1984. Paul, together with his wife Carol, is also the driving force behind our colts section, which was set up in 1994, and continues to provide players for our senior teams. Paul started playing for the club in 1973, when still a teenager. His wife Carol is the daughter of Bill Ham, an ex Chipps player. Unfortunately during the 2002 and 2003 season Paul was sidelined by injury. We hope to see him back playing soon. Paul was one of our first ECB trained coaches, and is qualified at Level 2. With his daughter Hayley, a regular in the colts U16 side and a Sussex Women’s U17 player, the Bakers are sure to be representing Chipps for many years to come. Tony Collins - Treasurer and Third XI Captain Since 1992 Tony has held the post of Treasurer. This year he will be the captain of the Third XI again. Tony started playing for Chipps in 1985, having previously been a colt for Littlehampton. Tony is another of our Level 1 ECB cricket coaches, and his son Ben and daughter Emma are hoping to follow him into the Chipps ranks. Jerry White - Fixtures and Facilities Secretary Jerry is currently our fixtures and facilities secretary, a position he has held since 1983. He has been a regular in the First XI since he first played in 1973, and his batting seems to improve each year. Jerry’s father, Don, was a stalwart of the Chipps side in the 1960’s and early 1970’s, and Jerry, together with his brother Andy, used to come to see Chipps play from an early age. Jerry is a trained level 1 ECB coach. Jerry is committed to helping develop our colts side, will be coaching the under 14’s again this year. His daughter Ellen and son Patrick look like continuing the White dynasty for Chipps. Dave Francis – Team Secretary Dave has been voted onto the committee as Team Secretary, a role that has been taken over from Pete Mansell. Dave has the task of getting the teams out at the weekends. Pete Mansell - Social Secretary and Second XI Captain Pete is now in charge of organising all Social Events for the Club for 2004. He will be the Second XI Captain again for another year in the Sussex Invitation Cricket League. Graham Avinou - First XI Captain Graham joined the Club in its Centenary Year (1997) and has been a regular in the 1st Team ever since. He became Captain of the 1st Team in 2000 and 2003 was his third (playing) year in charge of the side (Graham relinquished this role on the pitch in 2002 due to a back injury). He will now remain as First XI Captain for 2004. Graham has enjoyed the benefits of captaining a young side (due to the success of the colts system). Mark Hilton - Publicity Officer In 2004 Mark continues as the club’s press and publicity officer. A qualified Level 1 coach, Mark gives us valuable assistance at our colts’ sessions. Matt Bourne - General Member Matt joined Chipps in 2003. He was voted onto the committee this year as a general member. A new member means new ideas, and the Club is always looking for ways to improve.
