Palaver is more than just a group of three fine singers in harmony - Maureen Jelks, Chris Miles and Aileen Carr are also very fine solo singers , so you get all that too, and the occasional duet!
Already established individually as traditional singers when they got together to form the group in 1991, their collective repertoire is now enormous and varied, and although still strongly rooted in traditional singing, they also sing anything else that takes their fancy.
Whatever they do isn't just with wallop however, they've got sensitivity, humour and an obvious enjoyment in one another's company too.
Chris Miles
Chris is a Fifer born and bred, and came to singing in public quite late. She rapidly made up for lost time. Well regarded in Scotland and Ireland as a singer with a huge variety of songs, she performs solo, and in a club with Gordeanna McCulloch, and with Palaver. Not having a clue about harmony, Chris just sings the tune! Her debut album "Not Before Time" is on the Ninegaites label
Maureen Jelks
Maureen like the others, has made her name as a traditional singer, with a strong Dundee flavour to her repetoire, because that's where she's proud to come from. Maureen's is the pure clear laser-like sound in Palaver . Recently she has branched out, getting good reviews for her performance in Lorca's "Blood Wedding" at Newcastle Playhouse. She has a solo recording "First Time Ever"
Aileen Carr
Aileen is originally from Blairgowrie in Perthshire, and now lives in Auchtermuchty. She's been singing traditional songs since her teens - what else would you be doing coming from these places? During her long career she has sung by herself, with Coelbeg among others, and now with Palaver .
Hers is the deep voice in Palaver's sound. Aileen has contributed tracks to a number of compilation albums.
