The following is a page that I produced about Boultham Ward Labour Party in 1999. Sadly since then Trevor Rook has passed away. Garry Hewson and Ralph Toofany are still City Councillors and have been joined by Richard Coopland. The new Councillor details are below. In 2008 at the request of the Boultham Ward Party I am producing a new page which I will plan with them over the coming weeks. The three city councillors above have had the privilege to represent Boultham on Lincoln City Council on your behalf: They say "We do our very best to fight the Boultham corner in all subjects the City Council is responsible for. We also deal with your day to day problems either by letter, phone, email or through our ward surgeries held throughout the whole ward."
" Our latest venture is a web page which you can access, if online, on http://members.tripod.co.uk/chrisburke52/index-14.html available via any browser. Any team is only as good as its energy, its experience and above all its SUPPORTER’S. We in Boultham have proven over the years that we have all the above ingredients. We thank you for your support over that time. Of course we do not expect passive support and we have appreciated a questioning, enquiring, challenging and encouraging community which deserves the very highest standards of representation. You the electorate, the local community, have ensured that we remain a good team for our area and your support is appreciated."
A MESSAGE FROM GILLIAN MERRON M.P.
In our first year of Government, Labour pressed ahead on all the fundamental issues that concern us – Education, Health, Welfare, Crime, Jobs and the Economy. This year, every school has got extra £2,000 for books, whilst the Government has allocated some £15 Million extra for Education in Lincolnshire. In addition I am delighted that St Botolph’s Infant and Nursery School, in the heart of Boultham Ward, is to get over £200,000 to replace a mobile classroom – good news indeed! The beginning of April brings more good news for Lincolns 11,400 families with record rises in Child Benefit, whilst a tax cut for every employee paying National Insurance is worth over £65 per year. For some 16,722 pensioners in Lincoln, free eye tests have now been restored and their Winter fuel payment will go up from £20 to £100. Low paid workers will this month see the benefit of the first ever National Minimum Wage – 3,300 people in Lincoln will be better off, two-thirds of them women. The Governments commitment to improving the quality of peoples every day lives needs support from local government too. I am pleased that in Lincoln, we have a City Council that puts quality of life high on the agenda. City Council initiatives to revitalise the City centre, and make it a safer, more attractive place to live and work are bearing fruit. I welcome too the recent announcement of more money towards children’s play areas. In Lincoln, we have much to look forward to!

City Council rated as third equal best at dealing with complaints
by Echo Reporter
The City Council has been praised for the way it deals with residents' grievances.
A local government audit commission report has revealed the ombudsman considered only two complaints from Lincoln in the last 12 months. It means it is rated as the third equal best council at dealing with complaints in the country. People can report to the ombudsman if they feel the authority has not dealt with their problem satisfactorily. The council's assistant chief executive John Latham said the figures were a reflection of the confidence the ombudsman had in the way it handled grievances. "We are in the top five councils in this category and we are delighted to be in that position," he said. "We know there will be complaints made against the council but the figures show the ombudsman finds our system of dealing with them internally better than satisfactory." The report considers dissatisfaction over failed rubbish collections, damaged pavements and planning decisions. It revealed Lambeth Town Council was the worst in the country, with 624 complaints considered. And second worse was Liverpool, with 463. The figures are part of a wider Audit Commission survey in the run up to next month's local elections. The commission is responsible for monitoring local government performance.
