Notes for
Programmers
After reviewing a lot of software for the Siena, I felt that it would
be potentially helpful to programmers if I constructed some points that
might help to make their software easy to use and ultimately more successful.
When creating the zip file for distribution:
-
Always include a readme file complete with
-
the Psion model(s) that it works with
-
where exactly to place all of the files and which files to omit if any
-
the type of software that it is (i.e. freeware / shareware etc.)
-
a brief description of what the software does
-
some form of manual on how to use the software, if only basic
-
how to contact the author in case of bugs or problems (usually just
an e-mail and URL)
-
known problems and troubleshooting
I know that sometimes it can be fraustrating having to write down every
detail about the program that you've just spent a year developing.
However, it ensures that those people who have seen your software fit to
download can get it running on their Psion with ease.
