These are some photographs of my holiday in Africa in Jan 2001. These are pictures of the Batafon river in Guinea, near Boke.
This shows the main bridge in Batafon over the river. This bridge is for people, cars, bycycles and motorbikes. It is said that occasionaly people would accidently drive their cars into the river, and they would have to be lifted out again. The level of water changes throughout the year; sometimes the water goes under the bridge, and sometimes it is too high for people to walk over.

This is a picture of the river from the left hand side of the bridge. People would wash themselves, their clothes and their cars in the river.

This shows the Batafon river a little further down-stream. During the rainy season you would not be able to stand where this picture was taken. During the dry season it is possible to sit and walk where there now is water. This part of the river is called Bambadinka. It is supposed to be very deep, and according to the locals no-one has found the bottom of this part of the river.
