Honey Show 2002 Schedule

Our honey show will be held on THURSDAY OCTOBER 10TH 2001 7.30PM (Staging from 7pm) at the Newent Centre.

Classes


1

One 1lb jar of light honey.

2

One 1lb jar of medium or dark honey.

3

One 1lb jar of naturally granulated or soft set honey.

4

One 1lb jar of heather honey.

5

One standard container cut comb honey not less than 7oz.

6

One shallow frame of honeycomb suitable for extraction.

7

A display of 3 bee products; e.g. furniture cream, polish, honey, preserves, cosmetics, pickles etc. All items to be labelled for content. To be judged for content and artistry.

Raisin and honey cookies. As recipe below.

One bottle of mead in clear glass bottle – 75cl (27 fluid ozs. approx).

One plain mould of beeswax – weighing between 2oz.& 3oz.

RECIPE - Raisin & Honey Cookies – Class 8



112 g (4 oz) butter

125g (5 oz) honey

2 eggs

150 g (6 oz) plain flour

2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) freshly ground nutmeg

2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) baking powder

2.5 ml (1/2 tsp Sodium Bicarbonate

150 g (6 oz) Seedless raisins

2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) Vanilla essence

Pinch of salt.

Method

Cream the butter and honey together until light and fluffy. Add the beaten eggs a little at a time, beating until well absorbed. Sift the flour, nutmeg, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda and salt together. Blend into the creamed mixture before finally adding the raisins and vanilla essence. Drop the mixture from a rounded dessert spoon onto a sheet of baking parchment, leaving approximately 50mm (2 inches) between drops. Bake at 180 oC (350 deg F) for approximately 12 minutes until golden brown.

Judging will be by Mr. Robin Hooper.


HONEY SHOW RULES

1

Members may make more than one entry for any class but can only take one prize in each class.

All exhibits shall be labelled with small labels supplied by the Secretary

3

Exhibits must be staged between 7pm and 7.15pm on the night of the Show.

4

All run honey is to be shown in BS 1lb jars with plain screw tops.

5

Wax must be exhibited as one plainly moulded cake.

CUPS AND TROPHIES


All trophies remain the property of the Branch.

Committee Cup

To be awarded to any member of Newent Branch gaining most points in the show

Amateur Cup

To be awarded for most points gained by a person who has been a member of Newent Branch for not more than seven years. This cup can only be won once by the same person

Beginners Plate

A beautifully hand painted plate to be awarded to a newcomer to beekeeping, gaining most points in Show and who has not previously won a trophy at Newent Branch Honey Show

Mead Tankard

A handsome inscribed pint tankard awarded for the outstanding Mead exhibit in the Show.
