Newent Beekeepers Association.

The Newent and District Beekeepers are now offering practical training for those who are interested in in the fascination tradition of beekeeping. The course will cover useful information on how not to get stung, equipment, a year in the life of the hive (and beekeeper), extraction of honey (the best bit!), and tucking the bees up for the winter. Given sufficient demand, the course will begin at our apiary on the evening of Thursday 17th March. This will be an indoor session introducing the hive equipment and with practical instruction but with no contact with live bees Some sessions will be on Sunday afternoons at our apiary (place of bee hives), some on a Thursday evening. This year there will be increased opportunity for 'hands on' activities for the novices which should improve their confidence in starting beekeeping themselves. We hope that bee colonies will become available for offering to the students at a reduced rate but the course is available to anyone interested in honey bees without any obligation to take up the craft. The instructors are not charging for their time but Association asks for £25 which includes membership with free monthly meetings. Anyone interested in this course email iccaldwell@bigfoot.com.
