Swansea has seen many changes over the years none more than in the 1970s and 1980s when it lost its status as a major Port
with the introduction of containerisation. By the early 1990s the Port of Swansea was in a sorry state, since then most of
the Kings Dock and the Dry Docks have been refurbished and a lot of new trade attracted to the Port. The Queens however has
not been so lucky, with the closure of BPs Llandarcy Refinery the Tanker traffic through the Dock has dropped off dramatically,
now only small Chemical Tankers use the Dock. The Prince of Wales Dockis is now only used by Trawlers and Dredgers the
whole site is due for redevelopement. ABP have worked hard to attract new business to the Port the latest being the recently
opened £3m Hydro Argi Fertiliser Terminal at the Phoenix Wharf.
