FISHING VESSEL AGROUND OFF SEAHOUSES

Humber Coastguard were notified by the fishing vessel ‘Three sisters’ on 17 December 2001, telling them that the 17-metre Leith registered fishing vessel 'Rose of Sharon', which operates out of Seahouses with three crew onboard ran aground on rocks just outside Seahouses Harbour.

Coastguards scrambled the RAF helicopter from Boulmer, launched the RNLI lifeboat from Seahouses, and tasked the Seahouses Coastguard to the scene.

Because of the sea conditions being rough with breaking seas the lifeboat was unsuccessful in attempting to take the crew off the fishing vessel, and once the rescue helicopter arrived on scene the three-crew members were winched to safety.

The crew were landed ashore safely and into the care of the Seahouses Coastguard.

The vessel suffered no damage and no pollution was evident.

Humber Coastguard Watch Officer Steve Kinroy said: "The incident was resolved successfully and with speed, the entire operation lasting thirty-four minutes".
