National 084/01 17 April 2001 WRECK AMNESTY - IT’S THE BOGS An amnesty on artefacts taken illegally from sunken wrecks has turned up a toilet from a German U-boat. Divers in the UK have until April 24 to hand in anything they have ever recovered without fear of prosecution. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency says it has also taken in a number of chamber pots, coins and live ammunition. Veronica Robbins, the official receiver of wrecks says finders have welcomed the chance to put the record straight. If a diver declares a find, the receiver will try to locate its legal owner. If that fails, the item can be handed back to the finder.
