CAPTAIN CALAMITY OFF AGAIN

Coastguards should beware as Stuart Hill, 58, will set off today on another bid to sail single-handed around Britain.

Stuart earned the nickname of Captain Calamity after his first attempt at the 2,000-mile journey was scuppered by a string of accidents.

He has been rescued twice; sparked three lifeboat launches and scrambled an RAF search and rescue helicopter at a total cost of more than £20,000.

Stuart insists: "I know there has been criticism but I've proved that I can sail and the boat is seaworthy. I'm determined to achieve my goal - I'm not ready to give up yet."

Captain Calamity has modified his 14ft dinghy ‘Maximum Exposure’ and is confident he can break the 20-day record for the voyage.

Mr. Hill will launch from Southwold, Suffolk, and has promised to radio the coastguard daily.

He hopes to raise £20,000 for charity.

COASTGUARD NEWS hopes he remembers the Coastguard Association and the RNLI!
